Funny and weird with plenty of teen angst, this is my favorite tape that we made. Rather considered and thoughtfully crafted. Crazy lyrics, passionate screaming, tape collage snippets for segues, an obscure namecheck for a neighbor who's real estate swag notepad was used for lyrics. The last song Berthmark was entirely improvised as a reaction against a band with whom we played our first show. We thought they were acting like we weren't "punk enough". The album title was clipped out of a newspaper headline for a movie review of Albert Brooks' movie Defending Your Life. I remember recording a lot of this one in Danny's bedroom. Our parents were so tolerant of our noise, we were fortunate to be allowed the space and freedom and support to get weird. So fun. April 1991
